ALERT - ALERT - ALERT
LETTER TO CREDIT UNION MEMBERS – Debit Card Fraud

UP DATE FROM THE CALHOUN COUNTY SHERIFF---

Calhoun County Sheriff's Office
May 13, 2013

Important Notification from Mapco Convenience Stores:

Security Breach Press Release
At MAPCO, we care about our customers and respect their privacy. We want to alert you that we have experienced a security breach by third-party hackers that may have compromised the credit/debit card information of certain MAPCO customers. We truly regret any inconvenience this may have caused you and we have implemented further security measures designed to prevent these incidents in the future.
________________________________________
Important Security Announcement
to our Credit and Debit Card Customers
If you used a credit or debit card to make a payment within the MAPCO Express, Inc. family of retail fuel and convenience stores, we want to alert you to a payment card information breach that may have exposed your credit or debit card information. These stores include MAPCO Express®, MAPCO Mart®, East Coast®, Discount Food Mart™, Fast Food and Fuel™, Delta Express®, and Favorite Markets® locations in Tennessee, northern and central Alabama, Arkansas, northern Georgia, Kentucky, northern Mississippi, and Virginia.
Third party hackers used malware to access the payment card processing systems in our stores between March 19-25, April 14-15, and April 20-21, 2013. These systems transmit certain card information needed for the approval of transactions. The hackers may have stolen information that could potentially be used to initiate fraudulent credit and debit card transactions.
Although it is not clear if any of your card information was stolen, we wanted to notify you about this criminal activity. As soon as we learned of the malware, we took steps to disable the malware and further strengthen the security of our payment card processing systems. We also began working with a nationally-recognized computer forensics investigation firm and the payment card associations to determine exactly what happened and what information may have been compromised. We are cooperating with federal law enforcement, including the FBI’s Joint Cyber Crime Task Force, to find the third party hackers responsible for this crime. We are providing this notice to you after law enforcement advised that notice would not impede their criminal investigation.
If you suspect that your card information may have been compromised, you should immediately contact your bank, credit union, or credit or debit Card Company. In all cases, we advise you to remain vigilant by reviewing your account statements and monitoring your credit reports. Even though we have implemented internal security controls to contain any data loss, any card information that was already accessed by the hackers could still be used to initiate fraudulent transactions.
Please see the Important Disclosures linked below and call us for further information and assistance at 1 877 297 2081 Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time and on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time. Please refer back to this site from time to time for updates as we continue our investigation into this crime.
We value your business and take the security of your payment card information very seriously. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this incident may cause you.

Fort McClellan Credit Union Members---

In order to stabilize the affected accounts and the amounts, the Credit Union is attempting to contact all members whose Debit/ATM Card Account has been compromised and arrange for blocking the accounts and/or issuing new Cards.

Everyone is urged to check their accounts regularly and check your statements immediately. And immediately report any unauthorized transactions to the Credit Union and the Law Enforcement agency in your jurisdiction.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, especially when attempting to use the Debit Card and your account has been “blocked” due to suspicious transactions and we’ve not been able to contact you. The Credit Union processes are an attempt to protect your account as well as Credit Union assets.

DON'T DELAY! GO DIRECT TODAY!!
Act Now to Electronic Payment Rule for Social Security & Other Federal Benefits

With just under a month remaining until the March 1, 2013 transition to all electronic-federal benefit payments, the U.S. Department of the Treasury reports that Alabama seniors and other federal benefit recipients are still receiving more than 112,000 paper checks each month and have yet to switch to direct deposit or the Treasury-recommended Direct Express® Debit Mastercard®.* And with tax season upon us, if you’re accustomed to getting your tax refund via check, you will be affected as well.

Remedy the problem by signing up for direct deposit and have your refunds and payments sent electronically to your Fort McClellan Credit Union account. Direct deposit is faster and safer. You don’t put yourself at risk of having your check stolen, and it saves you the worry if you’re prone to misplacing your check.

Going from Paper to Electronic Payment is Easy

1. Check recipients can sign up for direct deposit or the Direct Express® card by calling toll-free 1-800-333-1795, visiting www.GoDirect.org, or talking to their local federal paying agency office. By taking the few minutes to gather the necessary information ahead of time, most federal benefit recipients can sign up for electronic payments with one phone call that takes 10 minutes or less.
2. You will need your Social Security number or claim number, your 12-digit federal benefit check number and the amount of your most recent federal benefit check. If choosing direct deposit, you also will need our routing transit number (262287360), your account number and account type (checking or saving).
3. You may also visit one of our branch offices for assistance in signing up for direct deposit.
4. There are no sign-up fees or monthly fees to receive benefits electronically.

Anyone already receiving federal benefit payments electronically will continue to receive their money as usual on their payment day. No action is required.

This is a government rule, so don’t wait until the last minute. Switching to electronic payments will save paper and money and time for you. Make the switch today.

NOTICE ALERT-- VISA NETWORK CHANGES
VISA has announced new changes within their network processing when it comes to pumping fuel for your cars. In the past, if you selected credit at the pump, a $1.00 hold would show on your account and the charge would come out within approximately two days. The changes by VISA that are to take affect by August 23, 2012 will put up to $125.00 pledge per gas purchase on your account. This is a VISA mandate and not something we can option out of.
In order to not be inconvenienced with the extra holds, we recommend you select debit at the pump and use your pin number. That will allow the transaction to come out of your account at the time of the gas purchase for the exact amount of the transaction, no holds for amounts greater than your purchase.

If the select Debit option is not available at the pump, you may consider prepayment inside, or choose another gas station that provides the select Debit option at the pump, or allow the greater hold to be placed by VISA on your account.

We regret any inconvenience that may be caused by this decision by VISA to change the processing of transactions in the VISA Network.

Fort McClellan Credit Union Remains Strong in Unsettling Economic Times

Anniston, AL – With growing apprehension and low consumer confidence in the current market economy, we want you to know that Fort McClellan Credit Union is a very strong Credit Union, with capital and reserves of over $19 million dollars or over 18 % of our total assets.

We’ve all heard the latest news regarding the explicit Federal guarantee of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The two mammoth government sponsored mortgage companies own or guarantee 5.2 trillion in U.S. home mortgages. And the closure of IndyMac Bank recently by the federal regulator, Office of Thrift Supervision, has also made the headlines as of late. And the condition of other financial institutions has caused great concern for their survival and what efforts have been made to shore up the economy.

Rest assured Fort McClellan Credit Union hasn’t been making the risky types of mortgages that have caused concerns for other financial institutions, such as IndyMac and other financials. Your assets are safe with Fort McClellan Credit Union.
In light of this news we thought you might have some questions or concerns regarding how Fort McClellan Credit Union federally insures your money. Here are some quick points of reference:

● As the NCUA brochure in our lobbies and at www.ncua.gov makes clear, the shares in Fort McClellan Credit Union are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), where not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost by a member of a federally insured credit union. This fund is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government. Established by Congress in 1970 to insure member share accounts at federally insured credit unions, the NCUSIF is managed by NCUA under the direction of the three-person NCUA Board. You may read about the details in the lobby brochure “Your Insured Funds” or in an online format at:
http://www.ncua.gov/Publications/brochures/insured_funds/funds.pdf
● Each Fort McClellan Credit Union member is federally insured up to at least $250,000 by the NCUSIF. Many families can increase the amount of share insurance coverage they receive by the appropriate structuring of deposits in various individually and jointly held accounts.
● Traditional and Roth IRA and KEOGH retirement accounts are insured separately up to $250,000 by the NCUSIF. A NCUA Share Insurance Estimator is also available for your convenience at:
http:///webapps.ncua.gov/ins/

We hope these resources serve to answer any questions or concerns, and we hope this information reassures you that even in rough economic times, you can feel confident entrusting us to safeguard your hard-earned savings. Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call us directly at 256-237-2113 or if long distance 800-642-1220 or visit any of our locations in Anniston, Jacksonville, Roanoke and Ohatchee.

E-mail Fraud Alert
Recently, there have been multiple e-mail fraud attempts, known as Phishing, that were sent to some credit unions members that appeared to be from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) or Credit Union National Association (CUNA). This false e-mail asked for the recipient to click on a link to verify their credit union account registration. If the recipient proceeded to do so, the link directed them to a false website and asked for their credit union account number and PIN, along with other personal information. The false email indicates that the senders have limited access to your account. No one has limited access to your account.

NCUA, CUNA, nor Fort McClellan Credit Union will ask credit union members for such personal information via e-mail. If you receive an e-mail that purports to be from NCUA, CUNA, or Fort McClellan Credit Union and asks for account information you should consider it to be fraudulent, and you should NOT follow the instructions in the e-mail.

If you responded to such an e-mail and provided any confidential account information, please notify Fort McClellan Credit Union immediately at 1-800-642-1220 or 1-256-237-2113.

CHECK CLEARING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY ACT
(AKA Check 21 Act)

CHECKS TO CLEAR FASTER WITH NEW LEGISLATION---
This legislation, passed by congress and signed into law by the president, clears the way to incorporate electronic technology that will streamline the traditional check processing system financial institutions have relied upon for many years. The purpose of the Act is to establish guidelines for truncating original checks and processing substitute checks in an effort to reduce cost, fraud and improve efficiency in the check collection system. Bottom Line? Your checks may clear your checking account from 0 to 1 day rather than the normal 1 to 3 days.

Truncation is the process of physically removing the check from the processing system and replacing that check with a substitute paper check. A substitute check is created from an electronic image of the front and back of the original check. The original check, if captured as an electronic image, may be removed from the system and processed as electronic data quickly and safely using state of the art electronic transmission technology. The processing time will be reduced and delays due to disruptions of our nations transportation system will be reduced. Furthermore, electronic transmission will help eliminate the possibility of checks being lost, stolen or destroyed. It will mean fewer individuals will come into contact with your information during the check clearing process. The minimized need for human contact will greatly reduce your potential exposure for identity theft.

Additionally, the amount of time between when a check is written and when the funds are actually debited from the account will be greatly reduced. This enhancement will reveal fraudulent activity much sooner.

Your account statements at FMCU will not be any different. And if you ever need a copy of your check, it will be available just the same as before Check 21.

SAVINGS OPPORTUNITIES WITH IRA's
Whether you are looking to save money for your secure retirement or set aside funds for education of a child or loved one, the Fort McClellan Credit Union IRA provisions will benefit you.

You already know you will keep more of your hard earned money, but are you aware of the advantage of the exciting financial opportunities with IRA's?

* Annual IRA Contribution Limits for Tradition and Roth IRA's:

Tax Year 2008 and 2009 $5,000 for single and $10,000 for married couples filing jointly.

For married taxpayers filing jointly where one spouse has little or no income, yearly contributions may be divided between the accounts provided the total contribution does not exceed $10,000 and neither account is allocated more than $5,000. The total yearly contribution that can be made by an individual to all IRAs, Traditional and Roth IRAs, is $5,000 not counting any rollover contributions.

* Catch-Up Contributions for People 50 and Older:

To make up for lost time, workers 50 and older before the end of the taxable year can make additional contributions of $1,000 above the contribution limits for tax years 2008 and 2009.

* Increase in the amount of money a beneficiary may receive in their Education IRA:

The contribution limit of the Coverdell Education Savings Account, hereafter referred to as Education IRA, is $2,000 per year, provided the contributor’s earned income is less than $190,000 for married couples or $95,000 for individual filers. Proportionately smaller contributions are permitted for couples earning between $190,000 and $220,000 and for individuals earning between $95,000 and $110,000.

* Elementary and Secondary school expenses have been added to the list of qualified expenses that may be paid tax-free from an Education IRA:

Your Education IRA can be used not only for higher-education expenses, but also for K-12 or trade school costs. And qualified primary and secondary education expenses aren't limited to just tuition, fees and room and board. They also include uniforms, transportation, extended day care, and even home computers.

* Education IRA contribution deadline is the same as other IRA’s, the federal income tax filing deadline normally April 15.

All of this is good news. Come in or call to learn more on how we can help you take advantage of these and other retirement and education savings opportunities now available.

And if you've not made your IRA contributions for the current tax year, it's possible you may qualify for a full or partial tax-deduction of your Traditional IRA. You may also consider the Roth IRA that provides the opportunity to build retirement earnings tax free. Call or stop in soon. Your credit union offers a variety of deposit accounts for your IRAs.

INTERNET CREDIT CARD MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
FMCU members now have complete access to one of their most important financial services--their credit cards. From a secure Web site, members may access current and past credit card statements and authorize payment via the Internet.

FMCU VISA and MASTERCARD holders may also obtain Account Summaries that include available credit, payment information, and credit limit at the date and time displayed. The Summary can also provide all recent transactions that have not yet been billed. In addition to their Account Summary, FMCU members can view several months of their credit card account history.

Members may also search for specific transactions, create customized reports, and obtain alert notification by e-mail when certain pre-specified events occur. Members may set alerts for:

* Credit limit being reached or exceeded
* When a new statement is available
* When the balance is within a certain amount of the credit limit
* When the balance exceeds or drops below a certain amount
* When a payment, credit, or return is posted to their account
* A posted item exceeds a certain amount

Once an event occurs and the notification has been sent, the alert is deactivated, but not removed from the list of saved alerts. FMCU members can reset alerts by clicking reset within the alert description section. The Web site will then send members an e-mail notification when the event occurs again. The alert may be deleted by the member at any time.

In addition to the above, members can download credit card information to use with their own money management software.

To enroll and access this free service, FMCU cardholders can visit www.ezcardinfo.com or from Fort McClellan Credit Unions' Web site-- fortmcclellancu.org and click on FMCU Credit Cards or Credit Card Statement.
